Gender: Illustrated guide

Gender: Illustrated guide to non-binary identities is my final project in MA Graphic Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. The book is an interactive and tongue-in-cheek explanation of different aspects of gender diversity. It focuses on Polish perspectives, trying to address the need of Polish non-binary trans people for accessible educational materials to learn from and share.

This book was written, illustrated and book-binded by me. This allowed me to include many interactive elements,creating an adult activity book of sorts.

The book starts with a bunch of definitions to ease the reader in into the complex
and heavily politicised subject.

Further on the text focuses on biology, history, language and culture in instances where gender and sex is not so black and white.

A crucial part of the project were interviews with non-binary Polish people.

Visually, the project follows a palette based on the non-binary flag (yellow, lavender, white and black). It mainly operates on human characters, be it cartoons or portraits
- to personify and humanise the topic of gender diversity.
